Bosch Rexroth Deploys OMAC Guidelines

Jan. 1, 2005
Bosch Rexroth (www.boschrexroth-us.com), Hoffman Estates, Ill., says it now fulfills the requirements of the Sercos PackProfile for a master device with its VisualMotion 10 control system for packaging machines.

The Sercos PackProfile is a guideline developed by the Packaging Work Group of the Open Modular Architecture Control (OMAC) users group for use with the serial real-time communication system, or Sercos.

The certification was carried out by the ISW, a standards organization based in Stuttgart, Germany. As a result, Bosch Rexroth says it is the first supplier to offer intelligent drives as well as control that satisfies the requirements defined by the OMAC Packaging Work Group.

“The certification proves that we take the recommendations from OMAC seriously,” contends Walter Ringering, manager of the Food and Packaging Industry Sector Group for Bosch Rexroth’s Electric Drives and Controls Business Unit.

The Sercos PackProfile improves the interoperability between devices from diverse manufacturers and includes a subset of the 450 or so parameters and functions of the Sercos interface. According to the vendor, VisualMotion 10 fulfills OMAC for packaging guidelines with integrated IEC 61131-3 compliant programmable logic controller, PLCopen compliant motion function blocks, Sercos and Profibus interfaces, and PackML state model.
