ABB and Fronius Collaborate on Robotic Welding Systems
March 1, 2013
By combining Fronius’ welding and power equipment with ABB’s robotics, the two companies are bringing to market new, modular products targeted at initial installations and upgrades.
ABB Robotics and Fronius International are developing modular robotic welding packages designed to ease initial installation or upgrading of robotic welding systems.
Currently, ABB is offering two new products using Fronius technology. The first, the ArcPack U2, features ABB’s IRB 1520ID dedicated arc welding robot with Fronius welding equipment. It is a modular entry-level welding cell with two fixed stations. The ArcPack U2 comes in a standard twin table configuration and is available as either a complete welding function package or as an integrated cell.
The second new product is an EthernetIP integrated communications interface for programming and operating Fronius power sources on the ABB FlexPendant human machine interface (HMI). Using this single point of programming allows weld data to be controlled by the FlexPendant through the HMI. All ABB FlexArc cells and welding packages can be equipped with the ABB-Fronius EthernetIP interface option.
