Kollmorgen’s new SFD-M high-resolution encoder offers multi-turn absolute feedback. Designed to work with AKDTM and AKD2G drives, the SFD-M absolute multi-turn encoder is offered at no additional cost over Kollmorgen’s earlier SFD models. This encoder offers four times greater positioning accuracy, fifty times lower EMF noise, and uses energy-harvesting technology to track absolute multi-turn positioning even when the system is powered off. The SFD-M measures the position of the rotor shaft throughout each 360-degree rotation without requiring reference to a home position, and it registers the total number of rotations the shaft has made in either direction. Key specifications include: 24 bits per revolution, 16,777,216 counts per revolution, 0.0772 arc-sec per count, 16 bits = 65,536 motor revolutions, and <±1 arc-min typical at 25 degrees Celsius.
