Honeywell Expands Sensor Line for OEMs

Aug. 16, 2011
New, board-mount ultra-low pressure sensors offer high sensitivity with high overpressure and burst pressure performance factors in one sensor.
With the growing trend across industries to track nearly every aspect of an automated system and collect the data for increasingly automated capabilities or improved analysis and decision-making, the sensor market has been on a tear. The reason: At the core of these interconnected networks of information feeding data back and forth for various purposes is the sensor – all kinds of sensors.
And that’s been the rub for most purchasers (end users and OEMs alike) of sensor products. The market has historically been highly specialized with sensors designed for very specific purposes. This high level of specialization in the sensors market is not by accident, of course. End users often need sensors with high levels of specific sensing capabilities for very particular purposes.
But that’s not always the case. In many applications, multiple capabilities would be welcome in applications with wide variances in operating environments. Such applications include medical device manufacturing and numerous industrial applications.
To address this issue for the OEM market, Honeywell has expanded its TruStability board-mount pressure sensor platform with a new Ultra-Low Pressure Sensor that reportedly provides long term stability, Total Error Band (TEB), accuracy and high burst and working pressures.
The TruStability Ultra-Low Pressure Sensors HSC (High Accuracy Silicon Ceramic) Series and SSC (Standard Accuracy Silicon Ceramic) Series use new Honeywell proprietary technology that combines three performance factors in the same product: high sensitivity with high overpressure and burst pressure. This technology is said to protect the sensor without sacrificing the ability to sense very small changes in pressure, as well as provides high durability amid environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.
These new devices provide an amplified compensated digital or analog output for reading pressure over the full scale pressure span in the ultra-low pressure range of ±2.5 mbar to ±40 mbar [±1 inH2O to ±30 inH2O], providing support for many industrial and medical
Additional features of TruStability Ultra-Low Pressure Sensors include :
  • Accuracy of ±0.25 % FSS BFSL (Best Fit Straight Line) reduces software required to correct system inaccuracies, minimizing system design time, supporting system accuracy and warranty requirements, and helping to optimize system uptime.
  • High burst pressures above 1034 mbar [415 inH2O].
  • High working pressure ranges above 336 mbar [135 inH2O].
  • Modular, flexible design with many package styles (all with the same industry-leading stability), pressure ports, and options simplifies integration into device manufacturers’ applications.
  • Insensitivity to mounting orientation allows OEMs to position the sensor in the most optimal point in the system.
  • Insensitivity to vibration reduces susceptibility to application-specific vibration that occurs with changes in pressure, minimizing inaccurate pressure readings.
  • Low power consumption (less than 10 mW).
  • Miniature 10 mm x 10 mm [0.39 in x 0.39 in] package.
