Beckhoff: EtherCAT Box for Acceleration and Angle Measurement

The EP1816-3008 is a compact, IP 67-rated I/O solution for measurement in harsh industrial environments.
Feb. 15, 2014

This IP 67-rated measuring device has two integrated three-axis, 16-bit acceleration sensors with range options of ±2 g, ±4 g, ±8 g and ±16 g and a sampling frequency of 1 Hz to 5 kHz. It also provides built-in tilt monitoring in longitudinal and transverse directions. The unit can be used to implement cost-effective acceleration and angle measurement directly in the field, outside of protective electrical cabinets. In addition, the signals are available directly in the main control system via EtherCAT rather than being managed with stand-alone measurement solutions. A typical application is vibration and shock/oscillation monitoring of machines, plants and buildings. For example, vibrations of robot arms can be precisely monitored easily. For wood sawing machines, a unit mounted on the work table enables reliable monitoring of the saw-blade angle adjustment through fast signal acquisition over EtherCAT.
