Motor-mounted Gearboxes Save Space

May 13, 2011
Designed for high power density in a compact space, the expanded line of 8LV servo motors feature gearboxes that are mounted directly on the motor, a design made possible by totally reconstructing the motor’s output flange and adapting it to the gearboxes.

The center gear rests directly on the motor shaft and replaces the input shaft on the gearbox, eliminating the need for an adapter flange, clamp system and gearbox input bearing. This produces an approximate 20% savings in weight, installation space and amount of mass that must be moved. Users can select among the 8GM30 economy series gearboxes, the 8GM40 standard gearboxes or the 8GM50 reinforced gearboxes. Standard series gearboxes are available as single-stage and two-stage units with a backlash <8 - <15 arcminutes. The 8GM50 series uses bearings optimized for radial and axial forces for mechanical compatibility with Wittenstein products.
