Acquisition reinforces company’s commitment to providing OEMs around the world with solutions and support.

Kollmorgen, a global motion control manufacturer with U.S. headquarters in Radford, Va., has acquired MCS Engenharia Ltda. MCS is a Brazil-based manufacturer and system integrator of standard and customized high-performance motion controllers and complementary motion control components.  The acquisition complements the company’s more than 20 global manufacturing, design and application centers, and reinforces its commitment to providing OEMs around the world with solutions and support.

Established in 1983 and headquartered in Tamboré, São Paulo, Brazil, MCS is the largest domestic supplier of precision motion controllers. The company was also the first Brazilian-based motion control manufacturer. The acquisition combines both companies’ expertise, technology and products. Day-to-day operations at MCS will remain unchanged.

“Acquiring MCS enables us to incorporate the expertise and resources of a leading Brazilian manufacturer into the Kollmorgen portfolio while making Kollmorgen products and application expertise easily available in Brazil, reinforcing our commitment to delivering complete, best-in-class motion control and machine automation solutions and support to OEMs around the world,” said Ray Butler, Kollmorgen Vice President & General Manager, Americas.

MCS is an ISO 9001:2008 certified company, with more than 15,000 controllers installed today.  MCS controllers are utilized broadly in many markets including:  machine tool, packaging, textile, metalforming, lens generation and specialty machines.

“MCS has a technically savvy and service-oriented staff of 40, and is recognized throughout Brazil for its excellent after-sales support,” added Butler. “MCS also has an experienced research and development team that collaborates with OEMs to engineer superior performing machines.  This level of service, experience and commitment provides instant synergy with Kollmorgen’s heritage of motion control design and application expertise, and our passion for providing OEMs with breakthrough solutions that are unmatched in performance, reliability and ease-of-use.”

In April, Kollmorgen announced that it had acquired Turkish-based Elsim Electrotechnical Systems A.S., a family-run motion control solutions provider with nearly 25 years experience delivering turnkey solutions for Turkish and Eastern European OEMs. “Kollmorgen is committed to providing best-in-class solutions and support globally, and acquiring Elsim provides a strong conduit for that to occur in Turkey and throughout Eastern Europe,” said Udo Panenka, managing director of Kollmorgen Europe GmbH. Turkey has the world’s 16th largest economy and an economic growth rate second globally to China.
