Compact AC Drive for Hazardous Locations

Nov. 2, 2016
The VACON X5 HazLo from Danfoss Drives is aimed at refineries, utility gas plants or anywhere else ignitable substances are not normally present but may exist in unusual scenarios.

The unit’s UL Type 4X Indoor/Outdoor-Rated Enclosure eliminates the need for bulky, heavy and expensive enclosures. Cooling is no longer a concern, so an additional enclosure box is not required, reducing costs. The drive also offers mounting flexibility and low cost installation due to its smaller size and lighter weight. It is easily programmed and controlled from the keypad, a feature often overlooked in hazardous location applications (adding a viewing window or keypad interface to other AC Drives can significantly increase costs.) Users have complete access to all of the keypad functions. Simple programming provides clear and concise visual information, helping to ensure the drive is operating as intended at all times. The drive also features an integrated brake resistor for better handling of high inertia loads and warm up in cold conditions, as well as a built-in multi-step sequencer that can replace small PLCs in many applications for reduced investment costs and more flexible programming. The unit meets UL - ANSI/ISA 12.12.01, 2007, cUL - CAN/CSA C22.2 No. 157-M1987, CAN/CSA C22.2 No. 157
