Network Gateway

July 2, 2009
Gateways help engineers manage multiple plant floor networks. This gateway connects Modbus TCP/IP with Profibus using a new communication logic feature.
ProSoft Technology's Modbus TCP/IP to Profibus SE Gateway integrates with Schneider Electric Modicon M340 processors. The gateway offers the new Application Communication Logic (ACL) feature built into the latest ProSoft Configuration Builder (PCB) software. The ACL feature automatically generates Derived Function Blocks (DFBs) specific to the user's application containing all logic required by the processor to manage cyclic and acyclic communication. The user can then import the files into the Unity Pro version 4 software without modification or writing communications message logic. Once the gateway and the network are operative, the acyclic pass-through feature allows processor-to-slave messaging without additional programming. Should the user need to make changes on the network, the gateway will regenerate the DFB files for import so that the user need not worry about the logic to communicate with the gateway.
