Industrial RFID Vendor Merged

Jan. 25, 2008
With the merger of Escort Memory Systems into Datalogic Automation Inc.’s Kentucky offices, RFID product development, manufacturing and strategic planning shifts to Bologna, Italy.
Datalogic Automation, Bologna, Italy, has announced that as of Jan. 1, the Escort Memory Systems (EMS) Americas’ organization—a supplier of industrial radio frequency identification (RFID) products, with offices formerly in Scotts Valley, Calif.—was merged into Datalogic Automation Inc.’s offices in Hebron, Ky. Datalogic Automation Inc. is the Americas’ subsidiary of Datalogic Automation. The combined resources of both Datalogic Automation and EMS will allow Datalogic Automation Inc. to market and sell both fixed position bar code readers and industrial RFID as well as provide better support to its customer base, the company said. The merger will also result in additional resources being available to the partners and customers of the combined company. The Escort Memory Systems name will continue as a brand for the RFID product line. The legal name will change to Datalogic Automation, Inc. Datalogic Automation Inc. will concentrate on the sales process, vertical application development, application assistance, field technical support and marketing activities. The emphasis of EMS in the Americas will shift from being a manufacturing organization to a sales and marketing organization. The merged organization will maintain separate sales channels, contracts, and sales organizations for each business unit with a more product and market focused business model. Repair of the EMS products will remain in the USA and also be managed out of the Hebron office. All EMS products currently available for purchase will continue to be available, subject to the normal and customary obsolescence procedures of the company. The international headquarters of the RFID Business Unit is now located in Bologna, Italy, together with the other business units of the Datalogic Automation division. The international headquarters will take the responsibility of product development, manufacturing, strategic planning, and overall management for the business unit. This allows Datalogic Automation to leverage its field infrastructure for three businesses which share a common market and customer focus. Datalogic Automation, Inc.’s USS (Unattended Scanning Systems) Business Unit, headquartered in Hebron KY, will continue to operate on its normal business procedures. There are no changes for this business unit relative to the merger activities. Datalogic Automation Inc.www.datalogic.com
