Cisco Reveals Internet of Things Strategy at Hannover

At Hannover Fair, Cisco showed off its Internet of Things strategy to connect and more easily manage data from anywhere in the world.

At Hannover Fair 2013, Cisco showed off its Internet of Things (IoT) strategy to extend IP networking to entirely new classes of devices, systems and applications, enabling data to be connected and more easily managed from anywhere in the world. The Cisco Intelligent Network Platform is a connectivity platform that delivers actionable data locally and to centralized operations, responds in real time, and scales to IoT demands.

Cisco introduced the ESS 2020 embedded switching board that brings its intelligent networking technology into a small form factor. The solution can be applied to diverse applications and harsh environments from military vehicles, high-performance trains, and industrial vehicles/machines.

With the understanding that ā€œone box does not fit all,ā€ Cisco put a ruggedized component of the Cisco Industrial Ethernet solution in a board form factor that customers/partners can easily integrate into their ruggedized casings used in harsh environments.

This form factor allows Cisco to work with third-party industrial vendors, such as Pason, to bring Cisco networking intelligence to their industrial devices/vehicles. With Pason, Cisco ESS 2020 boards will be part of the Versatile Services Platform (VSP) so data at remote oil rigs in North America can be analyzed by corporate systems in real time.

The ESS 2020 has a starting price of $1,590.
