Sercos International presents innovations at the SPS IPC Drives 2013 in Nuremberg

Oct. 24, 2013
Multi-vendor solutions, safety concepts and new products are in the spotlight. At the SPS IPC Drives show in Nuremberg from November 26 to 28 in hall 6, stand 110, Sercos International, provider of the Sercos automation bus, will present a multi-vendor demo plus new products from more than 20 vendors and safety solutions which are based on CIP Safety on Sercos.

The roll-to-roll demo “Plastic Electronics” from Bosch Rexroth is based on the high-performance, highly precise Sercos automation bus and, in addition to its own products, also contains components from Bihl+Wiedemann, Hilscher and Vision & Control. The demo illustrates how different processes within a machine can be precisely regulated, how web transport and processing units can be perfectly synchronized and how an exact web tension can be maintained.

As part of the moderated forum “Sercos in practice”, an explanation will be presented as to how the roll-to-roll demo was developed on the basis of the Sercos automation bus. Every hour on the hour between 10am and 12 noon and between 2pm and 4pm, the following topics will be discussed:

·        The Sercos-centered automation system: Minimum cabling effort, high scalability, uniform interfaces ...
·        Safety & AS-i: How does CIP Safety on Sercos work? How do Sercos and AS-i complement each other?
·        Vision & motion: What are the advantages of connecting vision and motion through a standard bus?
·        Ethernet transparency: What opportunities does Sercos offer in order to communicate directly with any Ethernet participants via the internet?

In addition, around 20 manufacturers will display Sercos products in more than 80 exhibits. Approximately 20 % of the products will be shown for the first time at the show. The new developments include: the LVD Sercos III, a compact, high-performance, low-voltage servo drive from Servotronix;, the 130 A servo drive from Schneider Electric Automation, which complements the PacDrive family; a weight transmitter from Laumas; a media converter from Phoenix Contact and the Innovasic fido5000 REM switch.

Various safety solutions complement the new products. These include SafeLogic and SafeLogic compact from Bosch Rexroth.
As part of this, Bihl+Wiedemann will present an AS-i gateway with CIP Safety on Sercos, which offers integrated safety technology for complex applications.

With the theme of “fewer cables, less complexity, easier machine integration”, the Sercos organization will show how the integration of production machines can be simplified. This approach was developed by Sercos International in partnership with ODVA and the OCP Foundation. A standard network infrastructure, in which Sercos telegrams, CIP messages and TCP/IP telegrams are transmitted through a single Ethernet cable, enables engineers and users to reduce the costs and complexity of machine integration. At the same time, they can retain their preferred product suppliers and automation devices.
Furthermore, communication via a single cable gives users more than 1,000 connection possibilities.
