March 23, 2009
The PTO (formerly PROFIBUS Trade Organization) is hosting a number of free training classes designed to show automation and IT professionals the power and scope of Industrial Ethernet.
The PTO and PROFI Interface Center will be holding free one-day training classes throughout North America on PROFINET technology and applications. Click here to access class details with a link to registration. PROFINET is the all-encompassing Industrial Ethernet that includes real-time IO, peer-to-peer integration, motion control, safety, vertical integration, and integration of existing fieldbuses including PROFIBUS, Interbus, AS-I, DeviceNet, HART, Foundation Fieldbus, and others. After an introduction to the technologies (PROFIBUS and PROFINET), the technical details of PROFINET are presented.  The bulk of the day is spent on a walk through a virtual factory where the typical problems of the real world are encountered. PROFINET is shown to be the solution to those problems as the technology is explained, demonstrations show exactly how, and application stories show how others have used PROFINET to solve the problem.  Areas encountered include:•    Machine Building: How do you use PROFINET to add a complete control system to a machine?•    Machine Integration: How do you integrate best-in-class machines into a working line? •    Motion Control: See how PROFINET can handle IO and regular TCP/IP traffic and can control 150 axes of motion control with sub-millisecond update times and less than one microsecond of jitter.•    Safety: See why PROFIsafe is safe as it runs on PROFIBUS or PROFINET, wired or wireless.•    Vertical Integration: Learn how PROFINET defines what is transmitted, and how, from the office to the automation system. •    The Network: What are the design considerations for the network and the network hardware? Attendees receive a certificate for 5.5 Professional Development Hours (PDH). As a special bonus, the PTO will raffle a week-long Certified Network Engineer Class (a $2,695 value) at each event.Click here for a city schedule, class agenda, and links to registration.PROFINET Certification Class The PTO’s Certified Network Engineer classes provide hands-on training in the installation, operation and maintenance of PROFINET products and networks. This course is an intensive, four-day training program. Attendees who successfully complete the written and practical tests are rewarded with the title Certified Network Engineer. They also earn 24 Professional Development Hours (PDH). Each class runs Monday through Friday, beginning at 1:00pm on Monday. The classes will be held in Johnson City, Tenn., April 6-10, September 14-18, and November 9-13.
