The test item and reference volume are pressurized and then isolated from the source by closing valve 1. Reference volume is then isolated from test item by closing valve 2, but they remain connected through a mass flow transducer. As air leaks from the parts, the pressure in the part drops and air flows through the transducer from the reference volume into the test part. The leakage flow is measure directly in sccm.
