Tougher PLCs

July 1, 2004
Modicon Momentum programmable logic controllers, part of the vendor’s Telemecanique family of automation and control solutions, are now available with conformal coating, allowing controllers to withstand corrosive and high humidity environments better than standard equipment.

Conformal coating acts as a barrier against moisture, fungus, dust and other environmental contaminants, especially those particular to the water/wastewater, and oil and gas industries. Consequently, coated products have a longer lifespan and do not require expensive enclosures to house and protect them. Instead of being placed in NEMA 4 or 4X enclosures, Momentum controllers with conformal coating may in some cases be installed in less expensive NEMA 1 or 2 enclosures.
