CHICAGO, IL (June 6, 2011) – As traditional business magazine publishers struggle to rework their blueprint for profitability, Summit Media Group is pushing ahead by continuing to invest in content. The Chicago-based publisher today announced that it has hired well-known industry journalist David Greenfield as Media and Event Director for Summit’s Automation World magazine.  Automation World is a controlled circulation title for manufacturing automation professionals. Greenfield’s role will be to help grow the eight-year old brand across print, online and live event initiatives, and to develop custom content for tablet apps and other products, leveraging his industry knowledge and broad online following. As founder of the 14,000-plus-member Automation and Control LinkedIn group, Greenfield brings an impressive social media component to his new position, along with multi-channel editorial experience garnered at leading business media companies. Summit’s new hire was most recently Editorial Director of UBM Electronics’ Design News magazine, which covers system and product design engineering.  Prior to joining UBM, Greenfield was Editorial Director of Control Engineering at Reed Business Information (a division of Reed Elsevier Inc.), where he also worked on Manufacturing Business Technology as publisher, several years earlier.  In addition, he has held editorial positions at Putnam Media, Lionheart Publishing and other organizations. David Greenfield will be working with Automation World co-founder and Editor Gary Mintchell to deliver content to engineers, IT and operations managers, and individuals who influence investment in manufacturing automation throughout the enterprise.  Publisher Jim Chrzan comments, "Gary Mintchell has always been one of the most forward-thinking writers in the automation space and well-respected by suppliers, readers and his peers in the trade press. The addition of Dave Greenfield to our team reinforces our commitment to offer the best, and solidifies our position as the go-to resource with print and online products, events, custom media, and now, the exciting world of tablet publishing.
