Sensors
UBITO’s new generation of Wiegand sensors offer higher sensitivity than precious versions, giving designers more flexibility when positioning the sensors. While previous generation sensors had to be located along the axis of the instrument’s rotating shaft, the new versions can be mounted alongside a collar-shaped multi-pole magnet mounted on the shaft. This arrangement allows for more flexibility in component layout, contributing to more compact (flatter) designs. The new system can be configured to produce multiple signal pulses for each shaft rotation. Wiegand sensors can also be used to count other mechanical events, such as a linear or cyclical motions.
In support of the new generation of Wiegand sensors, UBITO has introduced a new ASIC controller chip. Carrying the brand name “UBICYCL”, this chip functions as a counting register for current pulses. As with earlier Wiegand counting systems, this ASIC is designed to run on energy harvested from the Wiegand sensor. Mechanical motion events are recorded reliably without any need for external power sources, eliminating the need for backup batteries. Wiegand sensors and the UBICYCL ASIC meet RoHS 2 environmental standards. UBITO has combined the new generation Wiegand sensor and UBICYCL chip on a printed circuit board, forming the new UBIREV counting module. This product is aimed at applications that could benefit from a compact, reliable, battery-free, plug-and-play method for counting mechanical events (shaft rotations etc.).
