Avnu Alliance has created a new Aerospace Task Group to help aerospace organizations deploy next-generation networking technologies using Time Sensitive Networking (TSN). According to the Avnu Alliance, by adopting Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) standards, military and commercial aircraft, ships and spacecraft can leverage the latest standards-based networking capabilities with precise time and determinism to enable real-time communications between the sensors, actuators, mission controllers and flight systems that are crucial to commercial and military applications.
Building on the IEEE 802.1DP TSN Profile for Aerospace, this new task group will focus on the development of certified, interoperable, deterministic networking solutions essential for next-generation aerospace platforms.
In its release announcing the new task group, Avnu Alliance said: “As aerospace platforms evolve, the importance of a standards-based network cannot be overstated. The IEEE 802.1DP standard defines how TSN capabilities such as sub-microsecond time synchronization, low latency and frame replication for increased reliability are deployed in aerospace networks. By reducing complexity and cutting equipment weight, these capabilities simplify supply chains and enable mixed-criticality traffic to converge on a single infrastructure, delivering improved performance, easier sourcing and extended range.”
Dave Cavalcanti, Avnu Alliance president, said: “Avnu Alliance has been helping industries transition away from proprietary networks towards standards-based and interoperable networking solutions that support network convergence. The Aerospace Task Group is a natural step for Avnu as it builds on the Avnu ecosystem of silicon vendors, network devices, equipment manufacturers and accredited test labs to drive the adoption of TSN certified solutions in the Aerospace industry. This effort will help bring the benefits of reduced equipment weight, simplified supply chains, and enhanced mission flexibility to the aerospace sector.”
To kick off this new group, Avnu Alliance, Keysight Technologies, and GE Aerospace are sponsoring the inaugural Aerospace and Defense TSN Summit taking place from September 9-10, 2025, in Novi, Michigan. The event will bring together key industry stakeholders from across the supply chain to discuss implementation strategies, share progress on IEEE 802.1DP Certification, and outline next steps for standardization and testing.
