Baumer Acquires X-Sensors

Sept. 18, 2025
The acquisition of force sensor technology provider X-Sensors will combine the company’s sensor tech with Baumer’s smart electronics and IO-Link tech.

To extend its reach in the force and strain measurement technology space, sensor supplier Baumer has acquired the Swiss company X-Sensors. For 25 years, X-Sensors has been developing and producing high-precision force and strain sensors for OEM applications.  Its sensors are used worldwide in injection molding machines, presses and automated guided vehicles, as well as in passenger transport applications, such as lifts and cable cars.

"Force and strain sensors experience an incredible innovation boost with the addition of smart electronics and IO-Link, making smart sensor solutions easier and more cost-efficient to users,” said Dr. Oliver Vietze, CEO of the Baumer Group, explaining the company’s focus around the acquisition. Baumer began operations in 1952 as a manufacturer of microswitches designed to ensure efficient production processes. Today, the company says its high-precision, smart sensor solutions for factory and process automation are viewed as being key to smart factory applications.

The product range of X-Sensors will, over time, be adopted into the Baumer portfolio. Until then, customers are advised to use their existing sales channels for X-Sensors products.
