Automation World Announces Editorial Team Realignment

Feb. 15, 2013
Summit Media Group's Automation World (AW) magazine announces career changes for Director of Media and Events David Greenfield and longtime Editor and Co-Founder Gary Mintchell.

Beginning with the March 2013 issue of the monthly business publication for automation professionals, David Greenfield will become Automation World's editorial department head, with a title of Director of Content. Greenfield joined the publication in 2011 as Director of Media and Events and has been both an active reporter for the magazine and its digital properties, and chief content director for Automation World's annual live event, The Automation Conference.

With two decades of business-to-business publishing experience, AW's new department head draws from his previous management roles at both UBM Electronics' Design News and Control Engineering, the former Reed Business Information property now owned by CFE Media LLC. Automation World's choice to establish a new Director of Content position reflects the property's cross-platform editorial strategy — a practice widely embraced by today's media owners to coordinate content delivery across multiple platforms.

Gary Mintchell was a key member of the team that launched Automation World in 2003, which included the late David Harvey, the first publisher of the magazine. With over three decades of experience in both manufacturing management and industrial journalism, Mintchell is well known as a highly respected editor, an active member of various trade associations and a sought-after presenter. He steps down as Editor in Chief and away from daily operations followingAutomation World's most successful month in its ten-year history. The well-travelled writer and frequent commentator will continue with Automation World as a monthly columnist and contributor, as well as pursue other interests.

According to Automation World Publisher and Summit Media Group V.P., Jim Chrzan, "We are very pleased that Gary will be continuing as a monthly columnist and that he'll be traveling for us occasionally, as well. His first road assignment will be to Hannover Fair in Germany this spring. We're excited about David Greenfield's advancement to Director of Content. He brings new expertise and an innovative vision that goes beyond print to encompass online and social media, videos, apps, live events and other content platforms for the automation community."

"I'd like to extend my personal gratitude to my two colleagues and best wishes for success in their new roles," added Chrzan. "We begin our second decade just as we did our first – with excellent editorial leadership."
