Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) , Chrysler Group LLC, and Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc. were recognized by the Energy Solutions Center (ESC) for achievements relating to an energy savings project at Chrysler’s assembly plant in Brampton, Ontario, Canada.

ESC’s Partnership Award is an honor reserved for those energy users who have worked with their own energy utility system to implement a superior, innovative, energy-efficient technology or solution.  The award was presented at the Technology and Market Assessment Forum on June 26 in Toronto, Ontario.
SAIC was contracted by Chrysler to conduct an air balance study for the Brampton facility and recommend building exhaust reduction measures to achieve positive pressure in the plant and reduce gas and electric usage.  Enbridge financially supported the study and offered an incentive to Chrysler based on the project’s energy efficiency achievements.

The Brampton project included the replacement of control panels, the removal of floor level controls, revised air handling unit logic, and the implementation of an energy management system and scheduler.  The new system now provides Chrysler with improved data acquisition and analysis and real time control of its heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system.  In total, the project reduced exhaust by 1,200,000 cubic feet per minute and is expected to save Chrysler more than $1,000,000 annually.

“On behalf of Chrysler and the Brampton plant, we are very pleased to receive this honor from the Energy Solutions Center,” said Paul Bedich, Chrysler commodity manager.  “Without the help of SAIC and Enbridge, Chrysler would not have been able to implement such an innovative efficiency project that resulted in such significant energy savings. We are very happy with the facility and to be the recipient of this award, as both speak to Chrysler’s environmental commitment.”

“At SAIC, we engineer successful and sustainable solutions for our clients’ challenges today and tomorrow,” said SAIC Project Manager Darren Roney. “We are excited that Chrysler selected SAIC as their trusted advisor on its energy efficiency project at the Brampton assembly plant.”

“Enbridge has an ongoing commitment to help customers look for ways to incorporate energy efficiency in their operations,” said Jim Grant, vice president of Enbridge Gas Distribution. “The Chrysler project is a great example of a win-win situation for the customer, the environment, and the broader community we serve.”
