Backup PC Controllers

March 1, 2004
TwinCAT Backup is a tool that allows easy transfer of all critical data from one PC controller to another, without the need for identical PC hardware.

This allows users to leverage the latest PC technology while reducing the cost of change, and also allows for easy replacement of one controller with another, the vendor says. For example, one PC could have an ISA Profibus card or DeviceNet card while the replacement PC has only the newer PCI versions. Before TwinCAT Backup, computer drives were “imaged” to create backups, but this approach requires identical hardware. TwinCAT Backup runs as a normal program in Windows and will automatically perform full and incremental data backups. The backup data can include TwinCAT data and program files, computer name, network settings and other critical programs such as the HMI or SCADA software.
