UL IDES, a division of UL (Underwriters Laboratories) and provider of technical materials information, announced today that metals datasheets have been added to their database and are now available in the PROSPECTOR Materials Search Engine. More than 6,000 metals datasheets were added to the database, which is relied on by more than 385,000 product manufacturers, designers and processors.

"Metals is the first step for UL IDES to round out the solid materials areas of our offering," said Mike Kmetz, UL IDES Managing Director. "We recognized the growing need from much of the large, global audience that uses our Prospector plastics database also has the need for information on other materials. Metal was a natural choice for us to bite off first. Additional material categories will follow as we continue to build out our strategy."

With the addition of metals to Prospector, product manufacturers have the ability to compare metals with plastics in search results and side-by-side in a datasheet view. Prospector's Property Search provides users an easy method to find specific metal materials by searching on more than 20 properties such as Tensile Strength (Yield), Hardness, Tensile Modulus, etc.
