Pepperl+Fuchs Introduces the New Ex-Cover Pro Smartphone for Division 2

April 26, 2021
The premium, rugged, multi-purpose smartphone is based off of the Samsung Galaxy XCover Pro.

Pepperl+Fuchs ecom, the world’s leading manufacturer of mobile devices rated for hazardous areas, is proud to offer a new mobile solution for the frontline workers in Division 2 areas – the Ex-Cover Pro D2. Building on the strengths of the Samsung Galaxy XCover Pro, the Ex-Cover Pro D2 has been certified for use in potentially volatile settings and is designed to help those in oil and gas, chemical, petrochemical, and pharmaceutical industries work faster and more efficiently, while also staying safe. It offers the durability frontline workers need with integrated features, like Samsung Knox customization and management capabilities, push-to-talk, barcode scanning and more to help users to streamline workflows.

The Ex-Cover Pro D2 is extremely durable and challenges the status quo of what a smartphone built for industry needs to be. It’s specifically designed for hazardous work environments where collaboration, productivity, data security and employee safety are paramount. The device’s IP68 rating means it can handle dust, dirt, sand and water. It can withstand drops of up to 1.5 meters without a case, and its MIL-STD 810G certification makes it reliable in extreme altitudes, humidity, and other severe environmental conditions.

The rugged and thoughtfully designed Ex-Cover Pro boasts a 6.3” edge-to-edge display with Gorilla® Glass 5 to deliver a heavy-duty, high-quality viewing experience. Glove Mode also offers enhanced touch capabilities with gloves and in wet conditions. Ex-Cover Pro D2 comes with the latest Android™ 10 operating system and Samsung One UI 2.0 user interface, ensuring intuitive operation. Long battery life means the Pro lasts as long as the work does, providing 14+ hours of power. When out servicing a long route, field personnel can easily replace the battery with a spare to keep the phone going for as long as they need it.

The Ex-Cover Pro features Push-to-Talk and Walkie Talkie integrations with platforms like Microsoft Teams, enabling workers to be highly productive outside the office and in tougher environments. Now, frontline workers can rely on one device for seamless transition and collaboration anywhere. The all in one platform empowers today’s frontline workers with the resources to drive communication, collaboration and the ability to share information that will accelerate decision-making in real time.

With so many built-in functionalities, as well as software and hardware solutions, the Ex-Cover Pro D2 can easily be set up and customized to suit the needs of any Division 2 industry. The multi-purpose device is NFC-ready with enhanced security and reliability features from TEEgris, making it an exceptional mobile point of Sale (mPOS) system.

The Ex-Cover Pro D2 comes as an unlocked device, and is compatible with AT&T and Verizon in the USA, as well as with Bell and TELUS in Canada.

Pepperl+Fuchs is proud to have collaborated with Samsung on the design and certification of the Ex-Cover Pro D2. Jim Bolin, COO of Pepperl+Fuchs’ Process Automation Division, states, “The Ex-Cover Pro D2 elevates the capability of every team member by enabling them to perform  multiple tasks all on one device, no matter where the job takes them. Pepperl+Fuchs recognizes that the majority of frontline employees don’t work in an office and need a rugged, safe smartphone that can go anywhere they go.”

“Samsung has a long history of collaborating with companies to develop mobile technology solutions that make it easier and more convenient for people to get the job done,” says James Pak, VP and Head of B2B Partnerships at Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics. “This partnership with Pepperl+Fuchs brings cutting-edge hardware to the already durable and secure Galaxy XCover Pro to deliver a device suited for professionals in highly volatile industries.”
