Danfoss Acquires Ampner Converter Tech

Feb. 28, 2024
Danfoss Drives plans to use the 1500Vdc power converter technology to scale up its advanced electrification portfolio within energy storage.

Danfoss Drives, a supplier of electrification technologies for smart grids, energy storage and fast charging, has acquired the ACE 300 product and its associated product team from Finland-based company Ampner. The acquisition enables Danfoss to extend its electrification portfolio with a dedicated 1500Vdc power converter.

The product will be integrated within Danfoss Drives’ portfolio of electrification products with a primary focus on smart grid and energy storage applications. Energy storage systems are used across industries to secure a continuous availability of renewable energy, while strengthening a constant energy supply, reducing dependency on fossil fuels and promoting environmental sustainability.

With this extension of its electrification portfolio, Danfoss Drives will be able to better support users of battery energy storage system applications (BESS), which can be used for mobile power supply; to absorb surplus renewable power for later use; and in peak shaving in industrial plants to smooth peaks and troughs in power supply.

"This portfolio expansion is extremely relevant to serve projects within the United States Bipartisan Infrastructure Legislation (BIL) and Department of Energy (DOE) programs in particular,” said Clayton Gibbons, head of electrification and system drives – Americas.
